Water Heater Installation

We install water heaters in Collingwood-area homes, including first installations in new builds and additions. That covers setting the unit, making the water and gas or electrical connections that fall within plumbing scope, running relief piping and testing the hot water system before we leave.

Hot Water Tank Replacement

When a hot water tank reaches the end of its life, we remove the old unit, check the existing connections and shut-offs, and install the replacement. Tired shut-off valves, corroded fittings or undersized relief piping are dealt with at the same time rather than left for later. We take the old tank away with us.

Water Heater Repair

Not every hot water problem means a new tank. We assess the unit and its plumbing connections, explain what we find, and repair what can reasonably be repaired. If the tank is at the point where a replacement makes more sense, we'll tell you that instead of putting money into it.

No Hot Water

A complete loss of hot water can come from the tank itself, its controls, or the plumbing and shut-offs around it. Before you call, it's worth checking whether the hot water is out at every fixture or only one — a single fixture usually points to a valve or cartridge rather than the water heater.

Water Heater Leaking

Water around the base of a tank is not always the tank failing. It can come from a connection, a fitting, the drain valve or the relief line. If you can do it safely, shut off the water supply to the tank and give us a call — we'll find where it's actually coming from and tell you whether it's a repair or a replacement.

Not Heating Properly or Running Out of Hot Water

Lukewarm water, hot water that runs out sooner than it used to, or temperature that swings between fixtures are usually signs the tank or its controls are struggling — or that the household has simply outgrown the tank size. We look at the unit, the plumbing around it and the way the home uses hot water before recommending anything.

Signs Your Water Heater May Need Replacing

There's no single rule, but these are the situations where replacement usually makes more sense than another repair.

• Water leaking from the body of the tank rather than a fitting
• An older unit that has already needed repeated repairs
• Rusty or discoloured hot water
• Hot water that no longer keeps up with the household
• Visible corrosion around the tank or its connections

Repair or Replace?

We look at the age and condition of the unit, what's actually failed, and what the repair would cost against a replacement. A tank in reasonable condition with a failed component is often worth repairing. A tank that is leaking from the body, or one that's near the end of its service life and failing again, generally isn't.

Water Heater Maintenance

Basic maintenance helps a tank reach its expected life: keeping the area around it clear, checking the relief valve and drain valve, watching for corrosion at the connections, and knowing where the shut-off is before you need it.
